That's the usual (and correct) explanation. The infinitive
is still based on *h1ei- (h1ei-téi > ití), the present on
imperative i-dhí (idhé- > jIdé-). Cf. also the other
de-verbs jêde- (inf. jê-xa-ti, or jê-ti) "ride", klade- "put
down", krade- "steal".
