The hell knows. As Pokorny, as well as Watkins give it as separate
root *peisk- 'fish' with zero-grade form *pisk-. Curiously, *peik-,
oldest form *peik'- with palatal in some branches (cf. Slavic
pisati 'to write'), as well in Albanian has the meaning "spoted,
freckle', but with pure velar. In case you suppose, cluster of three
consonants is expected to be reduced in cluster of two ones.
