And some connect it with the Latin ancestor of 'joke' (I forgot its
gender, so I wont embarass myself by writing it), also giving
French 'jeu' "game" (yuletide was the season of many pranks and
games); the verb is 'joculari', I think.

Kuhn would have taken the WGerm. gemination as an indication of
Nordwestblock origin.
