According to Mr. Rasmusen, it is loaned from Greek suffix -ia. But,
if we take into consideration the word <thëni/thëri> 'louse', derived
from *k'onida: or *k'nida:, I guess that it is the result of
compensatory lengthening as a result of contraction. The same
phenomenon we may notice in <fëmi/thëmi> 'child', probably from Latin
<familia> etc.
