Lat. no:du- lost its /d/ regularly (all intervocalic voiced stops were
lost in early Albanian) and the two syllables were contracted into *no:
> *nö or *no (both outcomes are possible in Albanian, depending on the
date of the borrowing); the dialectal variant <nue> suggests an original
*no. Like many other short roots of this shape (including <sy>!) the
word was extended with -n- and became a nasal stem. This *non yields Geg
nue ~ nye (the loss of the final nasal is also regular, but see the
definite form nên-i).
