If I understand correctly, there seem to be two major gaps in
archaeologically connecting the major IE groups:

1) Globular Amphora v. Sredny Stog.

2) Iranian v. Indo-Aryan.

An interesting idea I've seen on the latter is that people of the BMAC
switched from farming to pastoralism, and also switched to speaking
Indo-Iranian (possibly already the Indic branch), and them moved East.
