This is an early (OE) assimilation: <hræfn, hrefn> [-vn] --> <hræmn,
hræm(m, hremn, hrem(m>, cf. wi:f-mann > wimman(n. Variants such as
<hramn>, <hram> are also known from Old Norse and Old High German.
