I'm trying to figure out the phonetic realization of Vedic/Sanskrit
anusva:ra. The sources I got to hand point to a kind of nasalized
approximant before continuants (palatal before [s'] and [j] and (labio)
palatal before other continuants) and a nasal (homorganic to the
succeeding stop) before stops, thus not unlike the "nasal glide" (/N/)
in Japanese/some variaties of Spanish or the Polish nasal vowels. Is
that the mainstream point of view?
