OTOH, maybe the CReC grade is proper to athematic forms;
athem. k^red-, them. k^erd-o-
is similar to
athem. djew-, them. dejw-o-
athem. kwon-

From the root k^erd- we have:
k^erd-o-z (m.) > PSl. serdU > sre^d > Cz. str^ed "centre"
k^erd-e-H2 (f.) > PSl. serda > OCSl. sre^da
k^erd-e-H2 (f.) > PSl. serda > sre^da > Cz. str^eda "middle day of week"
k^r.d-ik-o-d (n.) > PSl. sr.dIce > OCSl. srUdIce "heart"
k^r.d-ik-o-d (n.) > PSl. sr.dIce > Cz. srdce "heart"
Pol. s´ródek (k^ord-ik-o-z ?)
Rus. seredína
Lith. s^erdis "centre"
Lith. s^irdis (f.) "heart"
Ir. croidhe "heart, centre"
W. craidd "centre"
Goth. haírto
OEng. heorte (f.) > Eng. heart
Gmc. herto:n (n.) > G. Herz (n.)
OIr. cride
L. cor
gen. cordis
Gr. kardía (f.)

There is also
g^herd- > OInd. hrd-

So all roots showing the CReC grade are complex stems CeR+eC? For example
dj-ew-
kw-on-

Another thing which seems to me suspicious is -ddh- > -d-;
is not there a soundlaw which produces rather a sibilant in such clusters?
