In case someone wonders what the connection
between "sun", "fire", "warm", "soot", "grey-black" and "dirty" are,
consider the environment of a house with an indoor fire in which
hanging a ham up under the smoke-hole or wind-eye (Sw. vind "attic")
was enough to make smoked ham.
