because of the meaning. A crow is not a magpie. If one want's to link them
via "black" that is something else.

any idea about other Hungarians words which begins with "sz" and have in
Rom. paralel words which beginn with "ts"?
I verifyied the dictionaries I have and I founded following words which have
at begining Rom. "ts" and their considered Hungarian etymon:
tsarc� < szarca (sarka) (in both languages "magpie")
tsartsam (reg) < szerszem (sersem) (
ts�rc�lan (reg) < circalom (tsertsalom)
ts�nc < cenk (tsenk)
tsicl�u (reg) < szikla (sekla) (in both languages "cliff")
tsimir (reg) < cimer (tsemar)
tsintirim < cintirim (tsenterem)
In the online dictionary I use I could not find "szerszem, circalom, cenk,
cimer, cintirim" thus I have no ideea what these words means. Beside of this
the word "tsintirm" appears very appropiate to the usual Rom. "cimitir",
both words meaning "cemetery".
So we have 4 regionalisms which should derive from Hungarian words which
begins with "sz-" and "c" and 3 usual words which should derive from "sz-"
and "c-". The only word which should derive in this case from an Hungarian
"sz-" is in this case even the word in discussion, namely "tsarc�". Not very
helpfully to establish any rule via this path.
BTW Piotr, ever thought about the Dacian city called Tsierna/Dzierna ? Hard
to try to derive it from *kWernah? A city called "black bird"? Too
speculative in my opinion.
