I have nothing agains "*wel-" for "to dance" but I am not at all sure
for "vjell/vjellë/ vjellje/vjella" as derivatives from "wel-"
In fact I am thinking now at the meaning of the word and at its
Romanian counterparts which appears to be "a borâ"(to vomit)
If they are cognates then there will be two alterantives:
1) root *wo:l-
In albanian it shoul be *wo:lle > völlë > vellë > vjellë
In Rom. there will be *wo:lle > vorã > borã > borâ
Problems: it is not clarifyed if the "e" which results from IE "o:"
became "ie" later. Comparatively, the short IE "e" yelded later "ie",
actually "je/ja".If IE "o:" yelds too "ie" then apparently there
won't be troubles, if not, there are some.
2) root *wel-
In Alb *wel- > vellë
In Rom *wel- > anything else but not "borâ":-)
So, if the words are cognate, then they can derive just from an *wo:l-
, if they are not cognate, well, why shouldn't be? Which should be
the reason ?
