it suspect we should read "Slavic *did* change /a/ to /o/, etc...."

South Slavic has "dunav" for "da:nubius", thus the change is in this case
not Slavic.
About Sava, there is a short "a", but the river is still called "Sava".
In Maris and Samos I am not sure if there is a long "a:" or a sort one but
at least for Maris it appears the Greek records presents 4 variants for this
name: Marus, Marisos, Moreses

So, what about Slavic here?
