homo, humanus, humus, humidus.

In later Classical Latin times, [h] was no longer pronounced, and,
written Latin "h" appeared and disappeared as a spelling error as
casually as some modern English dialects dropping h's and putting
them back in wrong places, and for the same reason. Compare medical
[humerus] / classical [umerus] / Greek [o_mos], and Latin spellings
[Israhel] and [ahenus]. Some Latin-speakers may well have imagined a
connection between [humus] and [humidus].
