No. Kanji is what is being discussed. The kana are both alphabets
which show pronunciation, and not signs which can be pronounced
different ways. Put it this way: a picture of an red octagon can
be "pronounced" (or perhaps expressed) as Halt *or* Stop and this in
several different languages.
