You mean neuter -evo/-ovo? The omitted noun is typically *selo 'village'.

Of course some instances of -ev-/-ov- are of non-suffixal origin. For
example, Polish Ostrów = Czech Ostrov has the same etymology as the
comon noun *ostrovU 'islet in a river or lake' < *o(b)- 'about, around'
+ strovU < *srowos 'flow' (from then root *sreu-).
