Latin [homo \ hominis] = "man". Compare Anglo-Saxon [guma] = "man". I
suspect a derivation from Indo-European [dhghomo_n-] = "Man, Earth
being", from IE [dhgho_m] = Greek [khtho_n] = Sanskrit [ks.am] =
Tokharian [tekam] = "earth".
