The ending -ai~ cannot reflect IE *-oy directly. The reflex of that
is the acute -ì, -íe-. I have guessed at a restoration of the stem
as -a- + -i(e), but I cannot be sure. There is also the possibility
that /-ai/ is regular after /j/, i.e. medìniai 'wooden' would show
the regular treatment.
