Perhaps the suffix is *-tom. Interestingly this shows up in numerous
African languages (of different families) with the meaning "to
count." Perhaps *tom was borrowed from Afro-Asiatic (or perhaps Proto-
Semitic?) and was used in both o- and zero-grade form in certain
numerals (see also *septm which is a probable Semitic borrowing).
