You're not sure that endings that are phonetically
similar can't be falsely related together?

That's not a good sign.

The gen sg was *-(o)s or *-syo. The animate nominative
plural was *-es but there was also *-ih, an inanimate
dual marker apparently.

There's no confusion except your own.
