And yet one of the arguments that -s caused the lengthening was the very
absence of the final -s in animate nominatives that showed lengthening
(Szemerenyi page 116 section 6.2.7.1).
Since the sigmatic aorist keeps the -s-, while the nouns do not, the
lengthening cannot be due to the same causes.
