I looked it up; Late Latin <tumba>, from Greek <túmbos>, no further
explanation. Does it go with the Germanic
<dumb>/<stumm>/<stump>/<stub> "lump" root (if it did, it would behave
a root from Schrijver's "language of geminates", beside the s-
mobile), or with Greek <taphos> "tomb"?
