Nothing of the kind. Lat. di: > PAlb. *di (with loss of *d if
intervocalic, but that has nothing to do with the quality of *i).

Lat. <di>/<ti> were realised as Proto-Balkan Latin *dj/*tj before a
vowel (i.e., the original /i/ became non-syllabic), giving *3^/*c^ >
Modern Albanian z/s, as in servítiu- > *servétju- --> Alb. *s&rbec^- >
shërbesë, or in rádia- > *rádja- --> Alb. *rä3^- > rreze.
