Yes. In Vanir the ending /-ir/ is from German /*-i:z/ < IE /-*ejes/.
There is no trace of an old /-s-/ stem. So /*wensu-/ is simply a
nonsense.

Sorry, it was not meant as an insult. In Italy we use to say "to be
drowning in a glass of water" to mean " to be in serious trouble
without any apparent reason". As a full-sized man difficultly would
drown in a glass of water, I used the word "lilliputian" for
expressive reasons.
