Since Iosif Dzhugashvili's father also bore the name, it can't
technically be a patronymic. Plus, he (I.D.) had what looks like a
regular Russian patronymic, "Vissarionovich".

Does the _-shvili_ ending change according to gender, that you're
aware of?
