One reason I reacted is that 'software'/'logiciel' are standard place-
holders in the topos you see approx once a month in English-language
media: "the French have constructed and tried to introduce the French
word B for the English loanword A, but have failed, and now all the
French say A instead of B (and soon they'll all speak English)" etc
etc. Enough of that.
