For example, there was a lady called _Bess_ of Hardwick, daughter of John
Hardwick of Hardwick (Esq.), who had fishponds stocked with _carp_ at and
around Hardwick, Derbyshire, ca. 1600. A Google search for "bess" AND "carp"
yields 1720 hits. Very few of them refer to Dacia.

Note also that "porgy" and "carp" are both food fishes, so you will often
find them in the same shop. In other words "porgy" often accompanies both
"bess" and "carp". Can that be just a matter of chance? ;-)

Piotr
