No, but the word was borrowed _very_ early, most likely when Charlemagne
was still alive, otherwise it would have been too late to undergo the
various dialectal changes of *-orC- in Slavic. I suppose the Slavs heard
of the mighty ruler of the West, who wore a crown and was called <karl>.
A little later they began to crown their own "karls".
