I guess you can derive it both ways, from *nh2es- or from *nh2s- depending
on whether you accept the possibility that PIE *CHC- > BSl *CaC- in the
first syllable or not. But the laryngeal has to be here in order to account
for the *a:/*a alternation in different IE lgs.
