Despite all these speculations and objections, you
see that both the ancient Latin/Roman words, and that
what you find in e.g. English, <appropriate, approach...>
fits darned well to Romanian <aproape, apropiere, apropiat>,
you're still plagued by doubts as to the Latinity-
Romanceness of the term. (Only because of that "a-"
prefix. :^)
