The Philippines are on the far fringe of Indic culture, where
words reached but not always their exact meaning.
As I remember the political organization of the dictator
Ferdinand Marcos was named something on the order of The Mahalinga.
There were suggestions that that should replace the name of a
Spanish king for the country. Fortunately, the Marcoses were
overthrown, leaving thousands of pairs of shoes, but taking billions
of pesos that still haven't been tracked down.
