I, agree about your view about h1. What I wrote about h1 was just an
error.

My view about e is that it developed from a in certain phonetic
environments, and that o developed in other. This created the
qualitative ablaut, and in some instances stable e or o.

In Other environments the a was preserved. The h2 was one of the
facors that preserved a.
