Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I am currently unable to buy
that book. I have tried my own translation of Schleicher's Tale
into "Modern PIE" (albeit at a stage after the disappearance of the
laryngeals). Here it is:
Kl.ní: n.wl.á:na: ówis ékwons spokét / espékt. Tóisom óinos gwr.úm
wóghom ewégh(e)t, óinos megnóm bhórom ebhér(e)t, éti óinos wírom o:kú
(d) ebhér(e)t.
Ówis weukwét: "Méom kerd aghnutói spekeni wírom agóntm. ékwons."
Ékwo:s weukwónt: "Kléu(e), ówis, n.smá: kr.dá: aghnutói spekeni tod:
wíros, pótis, ówios wéla:s gwhr.móm wéstrom sebhi kwérti. Éti ówis
n.wl.á:na: nu ésti."
Tod kekluwós, ówis ágrom bhugét.
The only accents I'm unsure about are the infinitive *spekeni 'to
see' (modeled after the Greek infinitive), and *sebhi 'to/for
himself.' Any questions and/or comments are more than welcome.
