Actualy I tried yesterdy to find out about the argumentation of "kuvend"
comming from Aromanian but I failed. How I said, I wrote from what I
remembered and I am not very sure if this one was Rosetti or T. Papahagi
in his study of Aromanian Language. I will revert as soon as I refind
this discution or maybe Mr Iacomi remember better about a such statement
obout "kuvend" maybe?
I make a list with the Latin words which beginn with "con-" and these
which have been preserved in Rom:
*conquerire ( = conquirere) > cuceri ; to conquer
confundare > cufunda ; to submerge ( semantic shift)
cuneus > cui; nail
comparare > cumpãra; to buy ( semantic shift)
compitus > cumpãt; balance, moderation ( semantic shift)
*compitare ( = computare)= cumpãta to balance, to be moderate ( semantic
shift)
comprendere > cuprinde; to include, to embrace ( semantic shift)
consoc(e)rum > cuscru; person in-laws
contribulare > cutreiera; to scour, to wander ( semantic shift)
*contremulare > cutremura; to shake
conventus > cuvânt; word ( semantic shift)
convenientia > cuviinta; decency ( semantic shift)
convenire > cuveni; to ought, to deserve ( semantic shift)
Letting by side the semantic "development" it ought to see followings:
- from a very amount of Latin words which begin with "con-" in Rom. are
just 13
- from these 13 , 3 are from reconstructed Latin words
- from all 13 , 9 have a semantic shift
- from all 13, there are 2 common with Albanian ( kuvend/cuvânt,
kuj/cui)
This little statistic is maybe not too accuarate but we can see some
things here:
- there are more words in Albanian which are supposed to derive from
Latin words which begin with "con-"
- the loans in Albanians did not changed the semantical aspect ( or
there are too such cases Abdullah?)
If anyone is interesed I will present a list of words which begin with
"cu-" in Rom. and Alb. which are similars / related and they do not have
as bassis the Latin "con-".I will include here the words which are
supposed to derive from Lat. "co-" or "cu-" too.I won'T give the clearly
derivatives of the same word. Since I am not aware of the etymology of
Albanian words, I will give just the etym. of the Rom. words, as usual
cf. DEX.
