In Tuscan, si > s^i > z^i is a not uncommon development. So instead of the
expected literary *cosino we have vulgar Tuscan /kuz^ino/, written <cugino>
(although the even more vulgar Tuscan /huz^íno/ was of course not allowed
in the literay language).
