Well, I haven't read the original text (yet -- I have it on order), a literal translation of the bit that Peter provides is:  "an -a, which is followed by a nasal, is kept..."  That seems to say the same thing.  As for whether it makes linguistic sense, I don't know.

Well spotted!  What Streitberg actually wrote was "ein -a, dem urspr�nglich
ein Nasal folgte, erhalten bleibt, ..."
