/karam se/ "scold" is listed separately from /karam/ "do, move, drive"
in the Bulgarian Etymological Dictionary. The words you mention have
more to do with the former and could well be Slavic. I have not looked
them up exactly, but they were also not my concern.

I am not sure a semantic connection can be established between
"punishment" and the basic meaning of the root kr.- in Indoiranian
languages: do, move, build (the last one from Roland Kent). It is
possible to look for roots in Altaic or Turkic to see if they work
better than Iranian parallels. This is about what I intend to do in
the near future.
