I don't understand you analogy. 'Corgi' is a Welsh compound of
corr 'dwarf' and ci 'dog', with the soft mutation applied to the
second element, as in Welsh afonfarch 'hippopotamus' from
afon 'river' and march 'horse'. (Welsh <f> is pronunced [v].)
