1. There is no PIE *ali-us

2. Assuming you mean *alios "other", it is not a demonstrative.

3. Latin alius "other" was replaced in Vulgar Latin by alter (> outro,
otro, altre, autre, alt).

4. alius would have given *ai in Romanian, not ãst, cel, acest, acel or ãl.
