In my precedent posting I forgot to add that
in Romanian the word gre$eala (mistake, error)
is used in a much closer way to the original
in the substantive "gre$it" (actually the past
participle of "a gre$i"), e.g. in Pater noster
"gre$itzilor nostri". But even then one doesn't
think immediately of sinners, but of those who
commit errors (not any error is a sin :-).

BTW, Alex's dictionary also says: spovedanie
or spovedire means esp. in "bisrica" language
"marturisirea pacatelor."
