<madHya-> 'middle' (from PIE *medHjo-, as in Eng. mid or Lat. medius) plus <des'a-> 'part, region' (< PIE *doik^ós 'direction', from the root *deik^- 'show, in-DIC-ate'). It means 'the middle part (of anything)'.
