hmmm.. stephanos. Howe is this to derive ? is a compound like "orphanos"
with suffix "-phanos"?
the semantic evolution is easy to follow ( the one with the crown
"stephanos" is the ruller "stãpân") but there is the problem of "ph"
here. The form without "ph" should be the ancient one.
The loans from Greek in Rom. where there is a "ph" remains with a "f" as
expected. ( trupha = trufa)
