Some editors take it that way, others as rough-cast iron. The second part
of the compound is from choo:nos (for usual choanos) = the mould or hole in
which metal was cast, related to the verb cheo:

Iron is mentioned at times in Homer, but it is unlikely to be Mycenaean - it
is far more likely that these are later passages worked into the text.
