There are many versions of the name in ancient Greek. The first element usually appears as <potei->, <poti(:)-> or <posei->, and the second is <-da(:)o:n> or <de(:)o:n> (or _contracted_ <-do:n> or <-da:n>) for earlier <-da:wo:n> (the most archaic form). You cannot compare it directly to *dah2nu- (even if an indirect "watery" connection is not impossible) or to any historically known name of the Danube.
