(*zaje~cI < *zajinko- < *g^Hoh1-h1n.-ko- 'leaper') might be related,
so perhaps the adprep *g^Ho: was originally a case form of an action
noun meaning something like 'leap forward'.

If it was once a noun, wouldn't you expect to take the genitive, cf
eg. ON til + gen., cognate of German 'Ziel' "goal"?
