Why erect a straw man in my place? Variation in Albanian is
irrelevant. We were discussing Slavic, not Albanian. Slavic *kupiti
'buy' is quite obviously a loan from Latin via early Germanic (<--
*kaupo:jan-, cf. Ger. kaufen), whereas *ko~pati 'bathe' cannot be so
analysed. There are no formal or semantic difficulties with the
etymology of *kupiti, so what's the whole fuss about?
