Westergrupen

Hi John (Croft)
it's nice to see on cybalist (I'm pretty new, so I hadn't seen you on
this group yet).

I had a question regarding something I had asked you off-list earlier,

YOu had mentioned a theory of a non-Celtic, non-Germanic Indo-European
Westergrupen language originally spoken by the Belgae, based on place
names in the area. I had never heard of this, and was wondering where I
could read more about it. Does it have a known relationship to any other
Indo-European languages? Although there probably isn't enough to gather
from just place-names. And also in my Harper Collins Atlas Of World
History it shows a north-west European zone between the Aller and the
Somme rivers of languages neither Celtic or Germanic, but non-Indo
European, and this is gathered from place names. It proposes a
pre-Indo-European people squeezed between expanding Celtic and Germanic
peoples. I would assume this would pre-date the Westergrupen you
mentioned, as the Belgae didn't migrated West across the Rhine until
later.

Would love to know your thoughts (and anyone elses) on this-

Michael
