Are we off on a wild goose chase through Greek "Mauros", Iranian-
Croatian color--direction symbolism, and God knows what else,
because Alex's reading is as careless as his typing often is?

there is a list of all place names in "De Aedificiis." One of
them (transliterating from the Greek)is
"Manroballe" with the third letter NU not UPSILON, referenced at
148.46.
I don't have a "De Aedificiis" handy and the text doesn't seem to be
on the Web. Alex or some other kind person check the text. Is it
Mauroballe or Manroballe?
