Peter, I thought Aeolian was a fusion of Ionian and Thessalian
elements?

Also, the Greeks usually considered the Epirots non-Greeks. They spoke
NW Greek, so I'm assuming there wasn't a linguistic basis for the Greeks
to consider them non-Hellenes.

We have the Greek legend of Deucalion and his sons in Thessally fathering
the Greek peoples, did the Greeks have any legends concerning earlier
Hellenic settlements than this? Where did the Greeks place themselves
prior to this legend?

I'm also curious about Herodotus referance to the Dorians being known as
Macednons when they lived near Dryopis, and then when they lived in the
Doris area where known as Dorians. Some have used this to support the
Dorians originally being Macedonian, but I don't if there's linguistic
evidence for this
Adeus,
Michael
