Didn't he write about 40 years ago? I remember the Ural-Altaic hypothesis
from kindergarten, and I remember the Italo-Celtic unity hypothesis from the
same period, and the Balto-Slavonic unity. There was a tendency then to
find "unities" where we now find "points of contact". Hasn't the world
moved on?
So I guess the answer is yes, he's passe.
